The Clubhouse

The Royal Montrose Mercantile Golf Club was formed on 1st November 2019 following a merger of the Royal Montrose Golf Club and the Montrose Mercantile Golf Club.

The Royal Montrose Golf Club had been formed in 1986 following a merger of the Royal Albert Golf Club (1810), the Victoria Golf Club (1865) and the North Links Ladies Golf Club (1927).

The Montrose Mercantile Golf Club was formed in 1879.

The current clubhouse dates from 1898.

The club welcomes Men, Ladies, Student and Junior members, and visiting golfers to Montrose Links.

Competitions

Competitions are run throughout the year on both the Medal and Broomfield courses. Men’s Medal competitions are played almost every Saturday of the year, and Ladies Medal competitions are held most Tuesdays.

The Club runs numerous Adult and Junior Matchplay competitions throughout the season and submits teams to County Golf Association events. A very active Senior Men’s section play ‘Home and Away’ matches against other Senior clubs in Angus, Fife and Aberdeenshire.

All playing members holding a current valid handicap are eligible to take part in these club events. Partners can usually be found for Country and International members visiting the town.

Members Guests

Members are permitted to introduce guests at any time. All visitors and Members Guests are asked to enter their names and addresses in the visitors’ book.

There is a fairly informal dress code in operation that requires that members and their guests should dress with a degree of conventionality. Details of unacceptable items of dress are shown on the Club notice boards.

Dining Room and Bar Facilities

The Club’s Dining Room and Bar facilities are open to members, their guests, and visiting golfers throughout the year. Evening group meals or Parties should be booked in advance with the Caterer.

The Clubhouse is normally open from 6.30am to 11pm during the playing season; April to October.

During the winter, the Club is open from 7am to close of Bar business. Restricted Bar hours are operated through the winter from November through March. The daily bar hours for the current month are published on the Hospitality page of this website.

Monthly Prize Draw

The Club runs a Prize Draw with monthly prizes totalling £130, and £900 at the AGM in January each year. If you would like to join the Prize Draw or increase your current stake, please go to Member Home page and download a copy of the Application Form / Standing Order Mandate.
